Should I choose neoprene gloves with fingers or without fingers?
What is the difference between our two types of hand protection for the cold dip and should I choose gloves or mittens?
Both are made for winter swimmers—to protect the hands from cold water, cold, wind and “white fingers” (read about Raynaud’s syndrome at the very bottom of the article)—but the two NORDBAEK models differ significantly in design and functionality.
Here are some differences and benefits of both:
NORDBAEKS NEOPRENE GLOVES 'Deep Tide'
NEOPRENE GLOVES:
-
Finger separation: Gloves have separate compartments for each finger, five in total, giving you greater dexterity and control of your hands. This makes them suitable for grabbing a railing or holding items during your dip.
-
Dexterity: Since the fingertips are separate, you can do more detailed tasks with your hands while wearing them, such as opening your robe, zipping a zipper or grabbing a bag.
-
Insulation: NORBDAEKs bathing gloves are lined with an insulating material called Plush, which gives the gloves extra warmth and also makes them easier to put on and take off despite having fingers.
- Zipper: NORDBAEKs bathing gloves have a zipper, which makes them much easier to put on and take off. In addition, they have Velcro straps that give you the option to tighten the gloves more securely around the wrist.
- Anti-slip pro-grip: NORDBAEKs bathing gloves have a textured surface on the palm and the inside of the fingers that is super anti-slip, allowing you to hold onto even the slickest surfaces without slipping.

NEOPRENE GLOVES / MITTENS:
-
Fingers in the same compartment: Mittens have two compartments: one for the thumb and one for the remaining four fingers. This gives the mitten a larger surface area and keeps the fingers closer together, which provides good insulation and warmth since the fingers warm each other. They are ideal for very cold water, strong wind and cold. So if you generally prefer mittens when you are out in cold conditions because the fingers are together, you might consider choosing mittens.
-
Easy: Mittens without separate fingers are easier and quicker to put on and take off because they have a simpler construction.
-
Quick-drying: Mittens have less neoprene surface area and fewer seams, so they dry quickly when hung up.
-
Velcro wrist strap: NORDBAEKs bathing mittens have Velcro straps that give you the option to tighten the mittens more securely around the wrist.
- Anti-slip pro-grip: NORDBAEKs bathing mittens have a textured surface on the palm and the inside of the fingers that is super anti-slip, allowing you to hold onto even the slickest surfaces without slipping.
The choice between bathing gloves and bathing mittens depends on your specific needs and how you swim.
You can also choose based on what you usually prefer to wear when you are outdoors in cold environments. People differ in whether they prefer mittens or gloves—so think about it and choose what you like best.

AVOID "WHITE FINGERS" OR RAYNAUD'S SYNDROME
Do you sometimes get “white fingers” when you swim in cold water? That is, do your fingertips go completely numb and chalk-white when they get cold? Then you probably have what is called Raynaud’s Syndrome (white fingers). It’s completely harmless, but not very pleasant.
Wearing bathing gloves when you swim in cold water can completely alleviate “white fingers”. Try it.
Enjoy your swim,
NORDBAEK
