Living life slowly is something more and more of us are seeking.
It can be a challenge to find calm in our busy everyday lives. We surround ourselves with screens that provide information and entertainment around the clock, we have ambitious jobs, large families, sports and leisure activities, we may live in a densely populated city, and last but not least we are currently living in a world with post-corona reactions, with war in Ukraine and with environmental crises on many levels.
Living life more slowly is about finding your way to calm. It's not about withdrawing from the world—quite the opposite. Above all, it's about choosing to set aside the things that do not give us energy.
For many of us, “this thing” is all the electronic devices that surround us. Therefore, it can be useful to make a digital strategy for when we are online and when we are not. Decide that it's okay not to reply immediately.
A lot can be said wisely about this digital topic, but it is not the focus of this blog.
The focal point of our world is right outside our doors: nature. Nothing in nature rushes. Everything takes its time. Fundamentally, nature does not hurry. We can learn a lot from that.
Nature is the opposite of all our busyness. It is right outside our doors and it brings us back to our roots, to calm, to ourselves, and connects us to the Earth—if we go out into it and into it.
We've gathered a few simple guidelines that can bring more of nature's elements into our everyday life:
1. Breathe. Remember to get the air all the way down into your lungs when you're outside.
2. Get light. Arrange your day so you get more daylight, both indoors and outdoors.
3. Use nature. Take a blanket with you so you can sit down and enjoy the air and sounds, even if it's not warm yet. Or dress in clothes that make you feel comfortable regardless of the weather.
4. Look far. When you have the opportunity, look into the distance. Focus on something far away from you. By the sea you can often see very far. It can help expand the day's perspective and it's also healthy for the eye muscles.
5. Be with the people who give you energy. Go out into nature together and create memories.
We wish you calm and wonderful experiences in nature.
